Painting Technique – Thinned Layers

The first stage is applied over a basecoat. It consists of adding a line highlight to the hard edges on the top and sides of the object.

The next stage involves the same colour but this time thinned. Mix with water or medium, around 5 parts to each part paint. Work with very little on your brush and begin to build up the colour towards one corner of each ‘section’ of the object.

Apply a line highlight to each section, but only to the edges that meet at the corner previously worked towards. You can also add small dots and dashes to build texture.

Apply a spot highlight to the corner of each section.
