Harlequin Progress

I never realized how much work was involved in a squad of Harlequins, but am loving working on this squad :D. Each one has a silly amount of detail on them, making it feel like I’m doing a squad of characters, so I’m continually trying to keep them coherent and look like they should be fighting together.  So here is each one individually;

Harlequins Update

Been crackin on with the Harlequins over the last few days, and am feeling a lot more in tune with what I want to get as a result. This is the progress so far:

Harlequins WIP

I have kinda finalized where I want what colours and patterns to be, and have the foundations laid down for them. The next stage is going to be adding a few highlights and darker shades to get the effect I’m looking for.

Harlequin Progress

Progressed a little bit with the Harlequins, but only a little bit.

I’ve decided this will be where the main colours are, with diamonds and stripes to be added next. Most of the black cloth areas are going to be black/bone diamonds/stripes to keep a link with the Ulthwe army they are for. I will be adding some more colours at a later stage (once these colours are done), to brighten things up if need be, but only if its not gonna make them too garish or muddled.

Next Projects; Harlequins, Cadre Fireblade and more Death Korp!

I’ll be starting my next lot of jobs soon, and I have a few on the go now.

First up will be a squad of Harlequins for an Ulthwe army. I’ve been given free reign on these (except bone and black masks to tie into the army). This is both good and bad, on one side I get to experiment and do what I think will be cool. On the other hand I am notoriously indecisive, which may mean it takes a while for me to settle on a colour scheme, layout etc.

Following these guys I have the next lot of Death Korp to paint. For this round we have an engineers squad with heavy flamer and commissar, to be used as a veteran squad, another Basilisk, and a standard squad of dudes. Looking forward to the engineers, as from the brief look I’ve had they are some really crackin models.

My lovely wife also treated me to some models this week, in the form of a Cadre Fireblade and a box of Fire Warriors. Having to wait until next week to get the FW means I get to focus on the Fireblade first, and I dont mean to sound like a broken record, but again, what a crackin model. Bit expensive for what it is, but the detail and character is outstanding for a plastic mini. GW are out doing themselves on the plastic clam characters!

Leman Russ and Korvydave finished!

After a long weekend in Sweden (’twas awesome) it’s back to the painting and since being back in sunny Scotland (it is actually sunny for once :/) I have now completed the Russ and Korvydave. Here they are;

The russ has not yet been named, so I’ve left the forward red sections unadorned so this can be added at a later date if necessary.

Leman Russ and Korvydave Progress…

Well I may have got distracted by a certain Korvydae figure, now re-named Korvydave in honor of the owner, and I have to say he is just lovely. As always from Forge World character figures there is so much history and detail on the figure. And the face, oh the face, such a crisp casting gives such a great area to paint. Never before have I had so much fun painting a face (although he always reminds me of Robocop without the helmet :-/

The russ is now at the stage of getting the details added, with the main hull finished off. And here it is;

Battlesuit Complete!

My first battlesuit is done and dusted and I am suitably chuffed. The mini inspired a wee bit of fluff, primarily why in a snowy cityscape the Tau have chosen to fight in red armour. The colour scheme was taken from the army book and is labeled as D’yanoi, who the background state are regarded as somewhat backward due to being cut off from the empire for a long period. Thusly, this is what I came up with; The seperation from the empire has led to this force dropping the use of camo altogether, and using the blue sept markings more like the tribal markings used by the fire caste in the past to show their “hunting” skill. On this suit there wont be as many sept markings, but going to go to town the higher the rank :D.
