Guild Ball – GOOOAAALLL!!!

Goal-2

For the Guild Ball Alchemist commission i have been working on the client was also looking to have a themed goal made up for the team. This was honestly a pretty daunting task when the initial idea was laid out, but turned out to be one of my favourite parts of the job and the one part I think I am most proud of.

The idea was to have an overturned alchemists table as the actual goal, with some potions scattered about and a banner to make it clearly visible and offer a nice area for symbols and the like. Over and above this I added some metal bars on either side of the table to offer a bit more visually but also to fill some empty space. I hope it comes across in the finished product, but they are supposed to represent lead bars on one side and gold on the other, a nod to the most famous pursuit of alchemists.

I hope you enjoy it and would love to hear your thoughts. In the mean time have some more pictures….

Guild Ball Alchemist Commission in Progress

I’ve recently been painting up a Guild Ball Alchemists team for a client and thought I would show off a little of the progress.

The job called for the painting of Midas, Compound, Vitriol, Flask, Mercury, Calculus, a ball, the scatchbuilding of a themed goal and some scenery crates to go alongside the team. So far I have been focusing on the models and here’s how they are looking so far…

As you can see I have most of the miniatures completed aside from adding the few finishing touches to the bases. I have to say that Steamforged Games have done a fantastic job on these minis. Each one is packed with character, and so many little details that not only bring them to life but also make them a joy to paint. Really looking forward to painting more of their stuff.

I also have done the crates, which I’m very pleased with….

Next up is giving them a varnish, finishing the bases and then onto a themed goal 🙂

Guildball Painting Guide!

Group-Site

So I have just recently finished painting up and putting together a painting guide for this group of misfits. Several players from the Guildball Union faction, that I have tried to paint to match the artwork found on the character cards.

Normally you would find said painting guide right here on the site, but this one is a wee bit different and will only be appearing in the pages of Tabletop Gaming Magazine!

So if you want to find out how I painting these chaps, and get a good read whilst your at it, you can order a copy here: Tabletop Gaming Magazine

I’d also recommend checking out their Facebook page to keep abreast of news of whats coming in the next issue.

I’ll be back soon with an update on what my painting and gaming habits have been like of late and working on another painting guide :), but before that check out some close ups of these Guildball mini’s…

Knight Models – Joker Crew Commission!

I’ve got started on my first Knight Models commission. Over the next wee while I’ll be working on a Joker crew and I’m quite excited.

The client is after something a bit different from the studio paint job, not going for the Arkham city clothing but with something themed around the Jokers colours instead, so mainly purple and green with a little bit of orange thrown in there too. With that in mind I got cracking on some of the standard goons to start things off and here’s what they look like so far…

Joker-Crew-1 Joker-Crew-2

I still have a few bits and bobs to add to them. Straps on the trousers, finishing off the weapons, boots and weapons as well as the bases and adding some tattoos. I also want to add something a bit special to the shield as a flat surface like that is too good an opportunity to pass up 🙂

I’ve also got some extra crew members and characters to get cracking on with in the form of these folks…

Joker-Crew-3

I’ve left these until last so as to get a better idea where I’m going with the colours, but also because they deserve a little bit more attention. The Joker and Harley are going to be in their classic colours but the circus clowns I should be able to have some fun with and make them look a lot more colourful 🙂

Warhammer 40k – Inquisitor Commission Complete!

Added the final few touches to the Inquisitor and he’s now on his way to the customer 🙂

I’m very happy with how he turned out, but I’ll let you judge for yourselves…

Inquisitor7 Inquisitor8 Inquisitor9

I thoroughly enkoyed painting this chap up, and I think I may do a couple of other Inquisitors in the near future 😀

Warhammer 40k – Inquisitor Commission!

Just got cracking into a commission for an Inquisitor to represent the clients roleplaying character and it couldn’t of come at a better time 🙂

I’ve just started rereading the Eisenhorn/Ravenor series and every time I do I always want to paint up some inquisition, any inquisition. The job at hand called for some slight conversion to the classic witchhunter model, one that happens to have been sitting in my bits box for a few years. So I got him out and set to it. The client was looking for him to be armed with a power sword and a purgatus crossbow. The sword was fairly easy, just requiring finding one that looked suitably epic and getting it in place, the crossbow was another matter. I tried to find some images for the blighter but only came up with one, luckily it came alongside a description:

More advanced Crossbows are also utilized by the Inquisitions Ordo Hereticus, and have become a symbol of their order. Known as the Purgatus Crossbow, it is a fusion of a Boltgun and a standard crossbow and is able to fire with more force than a Shotgun blast. However, it is its ammunition that is the true marvel; heavy wood and silver stakes inscribed with wards and runes designed to disrupt a creature’s contact with the Warp, making it an excellent weapon to hunt Psykers

This gave me a good basis for how to build it; a boltgun fused with a crossbow. Here’s what I came up with…

Inquisitor1 Inquisitor3I think it looks suitably badass 😀

Next up is the painting, with the client supplying an image of the kind of look he would like me to go for…

Can’t wait to get cracking into this bad boy 🙂

Dreadball – Veer-myn Numbering!

The final stage for the Veer-myn was adding the numbering, neither me or the client had a good idea as to where we were gonna go with this so I set out to test out a couple of things…

Jpeg Jpeg Jpeg

The first 3 I tried out, from top to bottom, where a simple scratched on number over the base grey using a deep brown for the number, a white number over the orange used on the shoulder pads and finally the same as the top but with silver inside the scratches. The top one seemed to be the favorite of both me and the client, but it needed something more…

Jpeg Jpeg

At the clients request I tried it out with an orange stripe on a white background, and the same stripe on the original grey background. The client preffered the look of the whte background, so that’s what I went with…

StrikersB StrikersA Guards

The only one done any differently was Reek Rolat, who had the grey background, to tie in with his shoulder guards…

Reek-RolatUnfortuanatley the client still wasn’t keen on them, and decided he would like to have the transfers on them instead. So off to the local shop I went and picked some up 🙂

Here’s how the finished product looks…

Numbers Numbers2 Numbers3 Numbers4

Had to re-jig some of the numbers, as there wasn’t enough on the trasfer sheets. But got there in the end 🙂

Dreadball – Reek Rolat Finished!

The MVP, Reek Rolat, to go alongside the Veer-myn team is now done and dusted…

Reek1 Reek2

This guy is an absolute beast and was great fun to paint up, especially love the colour scheme and would love to do a whole Veer-myn team like this at some point.Next up will be getting the last few touches added to his little disease ridden buddies 🙂
