Dreadball – Dunedin VI Mega Bowl

There is going to be a Dreadball tournament in Edinburgh, the Dunedin VI Mega Bowl, in a matter of weeks and I’m getting very excited. The details of the day have only just been announced and boy, are there some good prizes. Here’s how its looking:

1st Prize – A copy of Dreadball Ultimate, Official Mantic league champion 2013 medal, official Mantic Dreadball trophy and Drake and the Dynamic Dinoborg (Limited Edition MVP)! In addition, the winner gets free entry to Vapnartak 2014 in York!

2nd Prize – Official Mantic Dreadball trophy and James “The Vet” Syler (Limited Edition MVP).

3rd Prize – Official Mantic Dreadball trophy and Chris Nord (Limited Edition MVP).

Best Painted Team – Box art Lithoprint signed by Jake Thornton.

Most violent coach – Coach Renton and Orcy.

How awesome is all that? Not only all this but the first 8 people to buy their ticket get a funky prize as well, in the form of this guy:

As you may be able to tell I’ve already grabbed my ticket to make sure I could get one, as I don’t think they’ll stick around for very long. The event seems to be much the same as the tournament taking place at the Mantic open day which I’m hopefully going to be going along to, so should be good for getting into the swing of things :D. I’ve already started to prepare the Gamma Slammers to be a bit more presentable, which will include some extra pose players, a brnd spanking new pitch and maybe even a t-shirt for the coach :).

Dreadball – MVPs

I’ve now amassed a small pile of MVP’s, and am planning on starting to paint them as soon as the Alpha Simian is finished, but before that lets see what I’ve got kicking around:

As you can see there’s a good selection there from all 3 seasons. Any that would fit with one of the teams I have, I’ll be painting up in a similar style but with a wee bit extra flair. The others will be a good opportunity to try out some funky schemes :D.

Dreadball – Big Mech Finished!

The Centurions now have one hell of a Jack joining their ranks, in the form of the Big Mech!

I’m very happy with how he’s turned out and will get some images up soon of him along sid ethe Centurions to see how they look together.

I have been tempted to have a go at making a DB glove for this guy, and am certainly gonna try a couple out and see out it looks, but more on that later…

Dreadball – Big Mech & Alpha Simian

Work has been progressing smoothly with the first 2 of my giants. As you can see I’ve painted up the Big Mech in the same fashion as the Silver Centurions, as I’m gonna try and do the same with each of the giants(different teams though). Just some glowy blue bits and something on the visor for this guy and he will be done 😀

The Alpha Simian I’m going to paint up for the Gamma Slammers, and to try something a little different will be done as an albino. Only managed to get the basics done on this guy so far, whilst waiting for some bits to dry on the Big Mech, but really looking forward to getting properly stuck into him.

In other news, should be getting my first game of Ultimate in tomorrow, which I am super excited for. Gonna try and get some pictures and do a wee write up of how we get on and general thoughts on the system.

Dreadball – Z’zor Finished!

That’s another team under my belt and ready to play. Almost? Even though they are pretty much done, theres still a couple of things I need some time to ponder over, first up is a name(which I always struggle with) and secondly the bases. I’ve gone for white on them cos I wanted them to be playing on a shiny, white tiled surface such as you would find in a lab as the idea is they are specimens from a lab put into the dreadball arenas to generate funds for the “company”. Just not sure if it looks right or whether I want ot add a coat of gloss over the top? But anyway, here they are:

Dreadball – Giants!

I was hoping to get a lick of paint on these guys by now, but due to my living room being rotten the missus and I have had to relocate to the in-laws for a while :(. So all I’ve managed to do is get them cleaned up and built and I will get a wee bit of undercoat onto them tonight.

Turns out contrary to my last statements there is still a fair amount of mold lines on these chaps. The good news though is they are much smaller and, to me, seemed much easier to clean off than on previous models. They do look amazing once built up, with a spectacular amount of detail and some really dynamic poses. Especially in the case of the Big Mech. That’s enough rambling though, here’s some pictures:

Dreadball – ULTIMATE Unboxing!

dreadball-ultimate-cover

Picked myself up a copy of Dreadball Ultimate this morning, for the great price of £32 from my local retailer, and my god what a bargain that turned out to be :D. So I thought I’d show you lot out there in the interwebs what was included and how it looked straight out the box. So without further ado, here’s whats included:

Ultimate Pitch

Ultimate Pitch

This is just lovely. Printed onto a flexible rubber base (much like a mousemat) its easily fold-able which is good cause it comes in at a massive 2′ x 2′. The colours are vibrant, the design great, and all the extra places for cards, discard pile etc make it even better.

As you can see the models are pretty nifty too. The sculpts seem to be a cut above what I’ve experienced from Mantic in the past with a beautiful amount of detail, as well as minimal mold lines. I really can’t find any fault with these guys, other than not being a fan of the Nameless Spawn (but that’s personal taste at the end of the day).

Card Deck

Card Deck

Cards are much of the same as in the standard boxed game, although with an alternate design on the back.

Tokens and Bases

Tokens and Bases

Tokens are again much as you’d find in the standard boxed game, but as I’ve said before that’s not fantastic, but they do the job they’re supposed to. I’m hoping that Mantic will do a set of acrylic tokens for ultimate, but won’t be holding my breath.

Season 3 Rulebook

Season 3 Rulebook

And to round it all off they have even thrown in the season 3 book. It’s certainly up to scratch with the previous books with 4 great looking teams, the rules for all 5 giants, rules for ultimate and some nice reference tables as well as some new fouls and rules tweeks to help get the game to where it should be. Some good fluff in there as well, with my particular favorite being a reason given for why the Judwan would suddenly drop from 3+ to 4+ speed.

All in all I am stupendously impressed with this box. Just for value it is top notch, with everything included coming to around £70 if it was bought and available separately (I estimated the pitch, cards, tokens would be around £20, as you know I’ve been looking at getting some pitches printed and these usually come in at £25-£35 depending on who you go to). Even if you just wanted these 4 giants it’s better to get this box than buy them in blisters. I can’t wait to try out a game of this as I think it will be just as much fun, if not more, than the base game with so much more going on and up to six more people to have a laugh with.

So with all that in mind stop what you’re doing and go and buy yourself a copy. Now!

Dreadball – More Z’zor!

Heres another wee update on the Z’zor and the extra details I’ve added. Got the eyes and the reds done and dusted, but only just got the Turqouise bits started:

After I’ve finished off the Turquoise all thats really needing done is the numbers on their backs some final touch ups, and the clear hexes. I had an idea of what I wanted to do for the hexes, which was a thin strip of green with red at the centre. This ones a little wonky, and needs a little clean up, but you should get the idea 🙂

Dreadball – Z’zor update!

Back to the painting :D. I’m back to the hobby after a couple of weeks of extra normal work, and getting stuck into the third of my Dreadball teams, the Z’zor, and here’s how they’re looking:

I’m very pleased with how they’re coming along, with the main addition above and beyond the tester being the red in the joins. I think this helps tie the whole lot together quite nicely :). Still have a fair amount of work to put into these guys, and will be looking to get the turquoise armour sections, the reds and the eyes finished off for tomorrow…

Dreadball – Pitch Designs Update

I’ve been fairly busy over the last week, working some extra hours at my other job, which has meant a lack of painting time to get some updates on here. Unfortunately it looks like it will be the same until October :(. However it does mean some extra pennies for some cool stuff. I’ve already got some season 3 Dreadball goodies coming soon, which will include a Teraton team, season 3 book and dozer :D. I’ve also decided to invest in a couple of pitches for my current teams and have been working on finalising the designs for this and would love to get some feedback or see if there’s anything wrong anybody can spot. So first up we have a redo of the Gamma Slammers home field, the Gamma Dome:

And here’s the pitch for the Silver Centurions, the Coliseum:

I tried to keep them in a similar kinda design, they have the same team manager after all :D.

I’ve also been toying with the idea of making up some of the accessories for these pitches ie. the home/away fan cards, action tokens, and markers for the score/eye in the sky and this is what I’ve come up with:

home-&-away-cards

As I’ve said I would love to hear what you think, especially if you think there are any errors or such. and if anyone is looking to get a design done themselves feel free to get in touch through the contact page
