Dreadball – ULTIMATE Unboxing!

dreadball-ultimate-cover

Picked myself up a copy of Dreadball Ultimate this morning, for the great price of £32 from my local retailer, and my god what a bargain that turned out to be :D. So I thought I’d show you lot out there in the interwebs what was included and how it looked straight out the box. So without further ado, here’s whats included:

Ultimate Pitch

Ultimate Pitch

This is just lovely. Printed onto a flexible rubber base (much like a mousemat) its easily fold-able which is good cause it comes in at a massive 2′ x 2′. The colours are vibrant, the design great, and all the extra places for cards, discard pile etc make it even better.

Nameless Spawn

Barricade

As you can see the models are pretty nifty too. The sculpts seem to be a cut above what I’ve experienced from Mantic in the past with a beautiful amount of detail, as well as minimal mold lines. I really can’t find any fault with these guys, other than not being a fan of the Nameless Spawn (but that’s personal taste at the end of the day).

Card Deck

Card Deck

Cards are much of the same as in the standard boxed game, although with an alternate design on the back.

Tokens and Bases

Tokens and Bases

Tokens are again much as you’d find in the standard boxed game, but as I’ve said before that’s not fantastic, but they do the job they’re supposed to. I’m hoping that Mantic will do a set of acrylic tokens for ultimate, but won’t be holding my breath.

Season 3 Rulebook

Season 3 Rulebook

And to round it all off they have even thrown in the season 3 book. It’s certainly up to scratch with the previous books with 4 great looking teams, the rules for all 5 giants, rules for ultimate and some nice reference tables as well as some new fouls and rules tweeks to help get the game to where it should be. Some good fluff in there as well, with my particular favorite being a reason given for why the Judwan would suddenly drop from 3+ to 4+ speed.

All in all I am stupendously impressed with this box. Just for value it is top notch, with everything included coming to around £70 if it was bought and available separately (I estimated the pitch, cards, tokens would be around £20, as you know I’ve been looking at getting some pitches printed and these usually come in at £25-£35 depending on who you go to). Even if you just wanted these 4 giants it’s better to get this box than buy them in blisters. I can’t wait to try out a game of this as I think it will be just as much fun, if not more, than the base game with so much more going on and up to six more people to have a laugh with.

So with all that in mind stop what you’re doing and go and buy yourself a copy. Now!

  1. My copy is in the post and I am looking forward to it 🙂

Are the mould lines on these actually significantly better that previous stuff? I have heard that Mantic have improved that aspect of their production, but the nature of the material used means that even small mould lines are very hard to remove.

    I have my fingers crossed.

    • The ones I got at near to no mold lines, which is a hug improvement over some of the other models(particularly the Z’zor). A mate was building his in the shop and they were the same, so a good sign that most are like that.

You’re right though, still think it will be a lot of work to remove the ones that are present, but at least it’s a good step forwards.
